‘I want to be nothing in order to be everything.’ Mario Testino is a creative genius who embraces everymoment and every opportunity. His ability to use the art of photography to capture some of the most raw and intimate moments, is what makes him one of the most in demand photographers today.
But in this new digital age, the unattainable has become accessible meaning that we no longer have that same hunger for the arts. Thanks to apps like Instagram, it can now all be created in the palm of your hand. So how does an artist keep up with a generation who no longer needs years of study, just a smartphone to be creative?

He joins the rat pack of course.

Whilst Testino’s photos are not simply achieved through a square frame on Instagram, it is by all means the perfect medium to remain known.

In Testino’s early days of Instagram, he was on a shoot with Kate Moss where he saw her in her dressing room, dressed in a robe and towel. The moment he captured was completely stripped back and natural. It proved that the art of photography does not need to be predetermined and that the best moments are free.
Thus the ‘Towel Series’ was born.

Using this new form of communication, Testino has been able to carefully select his subjects and presented them in a new way. Of the Towel Series, Testino states “You can do anything you want—wear it however you want. I have always treasured this kind of freedom: it’s rare.”

The series has seen Testino capture the likes of Miranda Kerr, Cara Delevingne, Blake Lively and Anna Wintour- just to name a few.
Below we have selected some of the most inspiring moments that Mario Testino has captured and shared in the Towel Series.
