What made you feel like your idea would be of service to people?
Before I started on this project I looked around the dating app market and noticed two things. One was that there was a lot people out there looking for more than just Tinder, and secondly that there was a real gap in the market for something creative in this space.
For sure CLiKD isn’t for everyone, it’s for people who know what they want and who are willing to invest a bit of time in finding their dates. And yes this does mean you sacrifice on the quantity of matches, but if you want to play the numbers game then you can bugger off to Tinder or one of the many apps that cater for that. But if you want something a bit more selective and a bit more creative, there’s us.
I have actually had some people call us Tinder with standards. I quite like that.
Have you received any success stories from the app thus far?
Yes a few have come back to us, but my favourite so far involved our intern, Daria.
We set up a blogging series for 10 dates, and offered it as internship. And unbelievably we had over 300 applications, and we hired a great photographer and creative writer Daria. She’s great, and the app worked brilliantly because having been single for a year, she then went and found her boyfriend on only her 2nd date with CLiKD! Which was great news, but also sort of messed up our blogging series a bit.
As part of the internship we also offered to send her to a festival if she met someone, didn’t actually think we would have to come through with that. And the two headed off to Outlook Festival in Croatia, which looked amazing fun. If your interested you can read all about it on the CLiKD blog.
How has this changed your perspective on life, if at all?
It has shown me that everyone is different and individual, and that this is something beautiful and to be celebrated. I really have been blown away by the many different weird and wonderful things that people look for in a partner. For some people they want math geeks, for others they want creatives and some just want to date a Gryffindor…
But that’s what I love about working on CLiKD, we put the user in control, sod being spoon fed matches, you be yourself and decide what is important to you.
As CLiKD grows, are there any new components you’re looking to add?
Oohh yeah, we have some great features in the pipe line though my developers have sworn me to secrecy. But I can tell you that we do want to really recognize our users creative talents by giving awards for creativity, great wit and photography.
As well as that, the fact that users can upload their own photos and question means that the app will grow organically, so there will always be some fun stuff to check out.
Where do you see yourself or your business in 5-10 years?
I see the business growing a lot and definitely giving apps like Tinder and Bumble a run for their money! I do feel that CLiKD is already breaking new ground and it stands out amongst what’s already on the market. I would like to see the CLiKD brand expanding on a global level. I want it to be a platform that can benefit people all over the world. As for me, I’m loving the creative energy coming in from our users, and I’m just excited to see what the
CLiKD community will come up with next.
What element of CLiKD, in terms of helping great creatives find one another, is most important to the process?
Definitely our BuzzFeed-esque questions. You use photography to ask questions and that is both a creative and powerful process. You can express a lot through your choice of photo, the content, composition and lighting.
This all makes the app very visual, yet fun. And having the ability to create your own bespoke questions speaks volumes about the person on the app. And we now even have a section dedicated to creatives so that you can see whether they fit within your brand.
Lastly, for those singles out there who are skeptical of online dating, why should they try CLiKD?
CLiKD is all about creativity and personality. It’s fun, and there are some cool people on the app, if that sounds up your street come check us out.
