TRENDS FROM THE RUNWAY FOR SPRING/SUMMER 2017.
If you are finished with your current wardrobe or wish to add something to it for this year and now want to start planning ahead, look no further for ideas. Here are some ideas trending for spring/summer 2017. The runways were showing the art of layering with bralettes. They came in various styles giving a versatile edge, as well as adding a two- tone because they come in different colours and textures. Prada offered bralettes over buttoned up shirts, alternatively, 50s style bralettes over dresses were shown. Alexander McQueen showed them with dresses under a leather studded bralette. Victoria Beckham’s show paired bralettes with everything including suits.
If you are looking for an interesting bright colour for 2017, fuchsia is ideal as it was seen on the runway and might be the shade for next summer. It is a bold statement colour and was paired with stilettos by Topshop and used to its’ advantage for a cape/dress hybrid with a tight-neck for added elegance by Valentino. Overall, it is the in-pink shade for this year so invest in some vibrancy.
The deconstructed shirt was shown on the runway by various designers, Alexander Wang put her take on the trend by adding extra sleeves, collars and cuffs. There were various versions of this trend from long-sleeve to short sleeve, and from stripes to pin-stripes. Whether for work or for a casual out-fit, the deconstructed shirt adds a difference to a functional staple. A trend that can be paired with this is the statement sleeve, which have taken on a life of their own for a few seasons. The style can vary from adding a few inches so the hem so it is past the fingertips to short puffy sleeves.
Something for footwear, is the kitten heel. Practical as well as adding a small level of height to the posture, they are seen as being in this year despite flat-forms being popular on the runway. Whether its classic black sling-backs from Prada or two-toned heels by Chanel, the kitten heel is set to be a trend for 2017. Another, item to add to an out-fit this year are mini-bags/purses. Tiny bags just big enough for a lip-stick are in for spring. For the Valentino collection they were worn over the shoulder in twos and threes on gold chains. Louis Vitton offered mini-purses as iphone cases which works in this era as everyone has an iphone, so it appeals to the masses.
Another trend is ruffles, presented in unusual fabrications, ruffles in black leather embroidered and printed. Designers showed ruffles to be in linen, punk-style and sequinned. For this spring an option could be, to pair them with cargo pants.
As Paris Fashion Week has taken place, it is interesting to look at some of the trends running for the Spring and Summer of 2017. Magenta and fuchsia were popular on the runway, as was yellow in different shades like marigold and sunflower. Chanel’s Data Centre collection used this colour in their show for a bright yellow jacket and matching trousers, complete with baseball cap and accessorised with silver necklace jewellery.
Another trend is the one sleeve bold shoulder look used for tops and dresses, used to create the asymmetric look. For prints, white polka-dots were fashionable when incorporated into a sheer look, as well as retro prints such as florals and inspiration from previous eras like the 60’s.
