Circular Fashion Summit 2020 brings VR to Paris Fashion Week this season

Circular Fashion Summit 2020 brings the fashion industry into Virtual Reality at the Grand Palais to unite during Paris Fashion Week This October

INTRODUCTION – THE FIRST VIRTUAL REALITY SUMMIT IN FASHION

The CFS2020 partners and sponsors are leveraging their technology solutions and financial support for positive impact across environmental, revenue and sustainability goals facing the fashion and retail industries today.

CFS2020 will be created using Unity’s real-time 3D technology, and hosted and produced inside Microsoft’s social VR platform, AltspaceVR. Attendees will be transported to the conference via Oculus headsets. Unilever has committed to executing measurable actions that will be announced exclusively as part of the Circular Fashion Summit, contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030 by promoting responsible consumption and product care to prolong product life cycles.

CFS 2020 will become carbon neutral in partnership with Equilibrium, to analyse the total carbon footprint of the data servers powering the VR experience, and then offset the carbon emissions.

“At AltspaceVR our goal is to scale human connection through virtual events. We’re thrilled that our platform empowers innovative pioneers like lablaco. The work they’re doing with the Circular Fashion Summit is an amazing example of how emerging technologies are unlocking new possibilities across industries.” – Karolina Manko, Program Manager at AltspaceVR

GRAND PALAIS ENTERS VIRTUAL REALITY

Circular Fashion Summit by lablaco is joining forces with the Grand Palais in Paris, famous for hosting spectacular fashion shows, to reconstruct the iconic building in virtual reality.

All VR production is created by spacegrey™, representing a new evolution for events in fashion as creativity finds new dimensions in the first ever virtual reality summit in fashion.

The 3D architecture has been produced in partnership with Chatillon Architectes, Chief Architect of France’s historic monuments, in charge of the Grand Palais since 2010.

“Fashion, technology, ecology, circular economy… By hosting the Circular Fashion Summit we are at the heart of the Grand Palais’ mission since its inception: to be the place where we think of a new world. And if this place is no longer just the physical Grand Palais, but also its virtual double, we are once again faithful to the roots of the Grand Palais, a place that has always been the place of innovation.” — Chris Dercon, President of the Réunion des Musées Nationaux – Grand Palais

GLOBAL FASHION WEEKS UNITE

In a historic first for the fashion industry, the presidents and CEOs of the 5 major global Fashion Councils unite to discuss the status and the new system of the fashion industry, during Paris Fashion Week.

  • Pascal Morand, Executive President of Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode
  • Caroline Rush, Chief Executive of the British Fashion Council
  • Carlo Capasa, President and CEO of the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana
  • Steven Kolb, President and CEO of the Council of Fashion Designers of America
  • Lv Xiaolei, Vice Secretary General of Shanghai Fashion Week

The Opening Round Table will be moderated by Burak Cakmak, Dean of Fashion at Parsons School of Design, and Shaway Yeh, founder of yehyehyeh and former Editor-in-Chief of Condé Nast.

Uniting to discuss the challenges of an unprecedented era during Covid-19 and its impact upon the industry with sharp declines in retail activity, and disruption to leading Fashion Weeks.

This is an exciting opportunity to learn more about collective action on issues of innovation, digitization, greater sustainability and social diversity in the fashion industry.

“As the fashion industry readjusts its rules to a new world order to survive, Circular Fashion Summit comes at a timely moment to give the platform to key stakeholders for their insights into what is next. What better way to do this than have the conversation in a parallel universe in virtual reality where social distancing rules don’t apply.” — Burak Cakmak, Dean of Fashion at Parsons School of Design

SPEAKERS

CFS 2020 features three panels in Design, Technology and Sustainability. Moderated by journalists from Hypebeast, Business Insider, and Business of Fashion.

Design — Redesigning Fashion

It’s not sustainable anymore to keep designing fashion as we have been, in light of present environmental crisis in the midst of a global pandemic. Now more than ever, it’s urgent to rethink not only how we design, but also why we design. Industry experts from The North Face, mx-R, Alexander Taylor, Salvatore Ferragamo and many more share insights into the design of tomorrow.

Technology — The New Product Storytelling

Technology has completely disrupted the relationships between products and customers. We are entering the age of connected fashion.
