Day 2 of London Fashion Week ended with a harmonious display of glitzy excellence presented by the flamboyant designer Julien Macdonald and his AW14 collection.
As ever, the Welsh-born British designer illuminated the cat walk with a show full of sequins, beading, thigh-high slits, low cut navel plunging necklines and suggestively provocative cut outs.
It was a really diversely edited collection, and contained, tiny mini dresses to floor-length gowns that were slit to the thighs in the familiar, seductive style of Julien’s work. The collection also contained an unexpected black cat suit which was a refreshing twist from Julien’s usual work and the nude dresses of the collection..
Julien used a sheer mesh fabric predominantly embellished with beading, sequins or lace to create a number of the garments. Standout pieces included metallic beaded dresses that were evocative of elegant chain mail, and a nude cat suit slashed at the midriff.
With the ‘dirty hair’ slicked-back look, the models glided elegantly down the catwalk with a haunting uneasy penetrating stare that made them look sedated or almost possessed, which added a great contrast to the clothing and it stopped us viewing the clothes as possibly risqué, but as high fashion garments.
The atmosphere was raised with the pounding music of Pandora’s Jukebox, and the beautiful Royal Courts of Justice served as a stunning location for an utterly beautiful display by Julien Macdonald.
