Spring time is upon us and we’re dusting off our summer clothes but every year, we all want a new wardrobe but where to begin? This spring it’s all about candy colours, more specifically pinks and blues. Pantone brings out a colour of the year every year and this year was the year of change, two colours emerged and they were a pastel blue and a pastel pink. Following that, these two colours have been the highlight of spring/summer 16 and it’s a change of pace. Since gender has been the hot topic over the last few years, the movement of a genderless generation is coming fast, but the focus on gender neutrality has been the current focus. Pink is for girls and blue is for boys, says who? Maybe this spring we can embrace our femininity or boyish charm in whichever shade we’re feeling.

Since we can’t always afford a luxury brand, the high street this season has a lot to offer with Missguided debuting their Candy Nights theme, it’s quite easy to catch the pastel ‘bug’. Neutral colours and tones match up with muted pinks and blues to give off a classic powerpuff girl feel. Floaty sleeves, lightweight fabrics and plunge necklines seem to be a recurring trend in most spring/summer seasons but this year flared silhouettes are getting wider and they’re still flattering which means that they’re perfect for getting you ready for those festivals. If you’re not feeling pastels then there’s many other tones in the colour scheme of the moment. ASOS are showing their varieties of pinks with fuchsias, roses and peaches – which will keep you cool and classy for those summer nights. The rise of denim has hit back with dusky blues and acid washes, so you can mix and match whether it’s a rebellious teenage kicks feel or a sweet, country style.

This season these colours are all about a fresh feeling and maybe even kicking stereotypes, for the guys it’s all about those salmon and pink colours on top to mix with your worn jeans. Have a browse around the high street and with these colour palettes you’ll be feeling ‘cool for the summer’ as Demi Lovato once said… well sang.
