Vera Wang’s Autumn/Winter 2014 collection debuted at NYFW re-educated the fashion world that it is the finer details that count. The walk was awash with a moody mix of grey and charcoal, not to mention the gorgeous sky-high ankle boots which screamed ladylike grunge. It was clear that this show was inspired by a vampy, seductive take on classic femininity; with berry stained lips and a black-on-black approach.
To begin with, Wang’s A/W2014 show opened with models in heavy checked fabric, layered on top of sheer fabric in the same print- this gave the winter layering trend a mysterious and provocative spin. Next came the leather-look to create a more sports luxe feel; Wang made a statement with perfectionist tailoring and a mix of materials to crate shape, definition and seductive charm. A personal favourite from the A/W show was a black velvet dress with a lace insert, also the sequined army of dresses from rich purples and jet blacks, to light intricate silver. The show ended on a glorious high with models wearing gorgeous gothic creations with flesh cut outs to keep to a romantic and playful feel.
It is clear that this collection was all about power and passion, arguably Wang’s best collection yet and a definite highlight of NYFW, for me at least.
