EXPOSED: The Midriff Trend Deniss March 27, 2014 Designers, Fashion Weeks, MESSFashion, News, Style, Trends The runway has been awash with exposed midriffs for several seasons now, and as Spring/Summer 2014 rolls in, the trend is about to explode into the fashion-sphere like never before. With tanned, toned tummies at Dolce and Gabbana, nestled in seductive lace, and a sleek modern style at Calvin Klein, this look is super versatile and adjustable to just about any look. A few personal favourites include the structured monochrome at Giambattista Valli; playful floral notes at House of Holland and the classy, feminine charm at Michael Kors. If fashion week taught us anything this season it would be that the ‘golden rule’ should always be followed- when it comes to crops, match your bottoms to your top. Matching top and bottom not only breaks up the colour/pattern, it can really transform the look from the ‘underwear as outerwear’ trend to something more elegant and wearable. On this trend, Vogue’s fashion editor Francesca Burns said “Elegant for evening or playful with matching shorts for summer days, never has there been a more attractive incentive to hit the gym than this summer’s diverse offering of crop tops.”
