#PFW Menswear AW16: Louis Vuitton

In fashion, we live by the rule, ‘out with the old, in with the new.’ Yet for Louis Vuitton’s AW16 Menswear show it was anything but. Kim Jones, artistic director for the labels menswear line, embraced a ‘Paris old and new’, an idea that saw the brand embrace our future’s heritage. This heritage embraces our present, one that does not turn away from recent tragic events and in return Jones presented a bleak yet strong collection.

Under an illusion of a floating cloud, models emerged from the floor in styles reminiscent to 1930s military wear. Trench coats and tailored suits came in sleek wools and soft furs adding an elegant touch to the strong lines; it was just another way in which the label turned the old into new again.

To accentuate the elegance of the clothes, but of Paris too, Jones had the models adorned in accessories inspired by the personal style of Baron de Redé, a man who was the epitome of chic. Brooches, charm necklaces and earrings, a result of a collaboration with Jade Jagger, along with the brands signature luggage, turned these military styles from fight to flight.

As a brand Louis Vuitton has been making ground, with success in both their womenswear and menswear collections. They have been able to take their history and tradition, and represent it in a way that is reflective of the time, our acceptance and their new audience.
