Inspiration for my graduate collection is taken from suits of Armour and the art of constructing such pieces. Key inspiration is taken from the areas of detail seen in Armour, the way in which each panel is connected to the next and the curves created that move in unison with the body.
Taking inspiration from highlighted areas of the body seen within Armour and layers creating an inspiring silhouette. As well as embossing details seen on Armour inspiring a textile edition of the collection through digital print, foiling and topstitching.
The concept came together after reading a quote from Bill Cunningham:
“Fashion is the Armour to survive everyday life”
Armour has a connotation of protection, independence and power: I have to use this connotation to create an attitude within my collection
I am inspired by work from designers such as Alexander Wang, Gareth Pugh, Antonio Berardi and Sports Max. I am a brand enthusiast and find the concept of branding fascinating. This leads onto my future plans as I plan to turn my creative work into a sustainable business. During the final year of my degree I focused on creating my business plan in association with SIE (Scottish institute of Enterprise) my future plan is to put this in action.
